A NUMBA 1. Even in its unfinished state the game is great and very addicting. Currently about 12 hours of content here. Hope to see more tech and fully fleshed out story line. This game is addictive and I can't wait for more content. There is a good story in the making and I relly want to know where this is heading.. Very nice little game, easy to play. Almost everything in it: mining, exploration, ship design, trading ...Have a future.https:\/\/youtu.be\/a5uh5qJNV_o. I was amused when I found a desert world where the locals worship giant worms .. This game is not ready for prime-time... Or even the late show.... As it stands of this review (02/14/2019)I find the game dull and many of the design decisions suspect. Can't see stars until you 'discover' a warp gate but then can see them fine? Really? Gee, you'd never have thought that humans have been looking at stars, even those in nebulae, for centuries with technology fare more primitive than Starcom should have... No missiles? An extremely ancient form of technology and we can't research it up from the get-go despite our Chief Science Officer being the 'smartest scientist in Starcom?' Yet they're required on multiple vessel upgrades? Really? You're going to gate us on 1950s technology? Yet we can make our fusion cannons better? The economy is primitive and highly exploitable. Just go back-and-forth between two ships in the same system and trade platinum for Cobalt-60 for platinum for Cobalt-60 and you'll be rich beyond your wildest dreams. Combat is, well, zero challenge. And I say that as a man with a partially crippled left hand who tends to find movement/real-time combat more challenging than average. You're given a lot of meaningless detail that isn't explained. A class A3 planet? Why? What does that mean? Apparently nothing as far as I can tell. And there's certainly no 'encyclopedia' to tell you. And so it goes. The biggest sin though is that it's a grind. Go to star system. Scan planets. Destroy some laughably weak enemies. Eventually go back to replace dead crew from the, apparently, infinite supply of crewman on the starbase. Upgrade ship. Lather, rinse, repeat. And so it goes. All I can hope is that some significant changes to the scope and design decisions are made. Because right now.... It's just not a good game.. 8 very enjoyable hours of content as of Dec 14th. Game obviously needs a lot more content to be a great game, but otherwise its a great foundation for the devs to build on.. Solid space exploration game with fun ship design and upgrade elements, satisfying combat, and trade. The hand-crafted galaxy complements an interesting main storyline and keeps exploration interesting with secrets and side quests hidden throughout. Could use more variety in ship parts and weapons a few hours in, and some quality of life improvements with the UI, especially the map, would be nice. That being said: there's a lot of polish here to enjoy, especially for early access. Starcom: Nexus brings me back to a time when games weren't just about DLC, and microtransactions -- kudos to the creator. Version 0.12.4 now live on main branch!: Starcom: Nexus has now been updated to 0.12.4 on the main, "default" branch. What could it be?. Closed Beta Round Two: Looking Good!: A couple weeks ago the second closed Beta invite went out to a few dozen mailing list subscribers. If you didn't get one, there will definitely be at least one more round of closed betas before Early Access, probably more. If you'd like to be included on mailing updates and potentially be included in future betas, you can sign up on the website. The next round of closed betas will start in about two weeks:http://www.starcomnexus.com/closed-beta-mailing-list-sign-up/Based on tester's feedback, I feel confident that the game will enter Early Access before the end of the year. While there are some bugs and quality of life feature requests (it is a Beta), most players reported really enjoying the experience. The data suggests they weren't just being polite: almost 90% of the playtesters who installed the game played for at least an hour and almost 90% of those played nearly all of the main story content currently available (roughly 3 hours as of that build). In other news:The game now has a Discord channel where you'll find me most days: https://discord.gg/ezFPXcWFirst pre-release curator review from Space Game Junkie: If you love space exploration akin to Starflight or The Long Journey Home, but without the tedious rover stuff, you'll LOVE Starcom: Nexus. It's fantastic with exploration, discovery and its writing. Given how much I loved Starflight, that made me really happy. The game still has a ways to go before it's complete. As the playtesters have seen, this is a very content-rich game and it will need a lot more content before it is done. One the main reasons for Early Access: I have a vision for the overall story of Starcom:Nexus, but I want your help filling in the details and the path that takes you to the end.- Kevin.
